In order to view 3-D movies an illusion of depth needs to be created. An easy way to trick the brain into viewing depth is to provide the eye with two different versions of the same object. Each version will have a minor deviation similar to what both eyes see naturally in binocular vision. Remember in the 1950s when 3-D movies were all the craze. I remember seeing those old black-and-white photos, with guys with short haircuts and women with bouffant hairdos, wearing green and red 3-D glasses watching a black-and-white screen.
